Over the past several years, I’ve worked on several large projects to repair, improve, and future-proof our city’s roads—all while being mindful of taxpayer dollars. Through diligence, persistence, and collaboration with residents and state partners, we’ve made substantial gains. Here’s what we’ve accomplished together:

Lakeside Drive: A Win for Accountability

After years of effort, I’m proud to share that Lakeside Drive was completely repaved at no cost to the city. I worked alongside residents to hold the developer accountable, ensuring the road met our standards before the city accepted it. This saved public funds and set a precedent: developers must take responsibility for the infrastructure they leave behind.

Old Acton Road: Strategic Patience Pays Off

Old Acton Road has been a top concern for many. I repeatedly placed it on the council agenda, pressing for repairs. Rather than rushing to spend city funds, the city coordinated with Trussville Gas as they are installing an upgraded gas main, they agreed to repave much of the road following their utility work. The city is contributing some, but only a fraction of the quotes we previously were given. This strategic delay is saving city resources while still getting the work done.

🚧 Clover Avenue: A Missed Opportunity

After Residents approached the council and were put off, I brought Clover Avenue to the agenda, my goal was the same as Lakeside Drive: to hold the developer responsible for the poor condition of the road. Unfortunately, the mayor bypassed that approach with an informal deal that ultimately fell through. Now, the city is paying for partial repairs instead of a full, permanent fix. I continue to push for transparency and accountability in how public infrastructure is managed.

🏗️ Brookhaven Drive Grant: $350,000 Secured for 1 Mile of Reconstruction

In February 2024, I applied for a Rebuild Alabama Grant to completely rebuild 1 mile of Brookhaven Drive, including curb, drainage, and pavement improvements. In September 2024, we were awarded $350,000. This project goes out for bid today, marking a major step forward in improving one of Margaret’s key residential routes. This is what smart planning and strategic partnerships look like.

🧱 Modernizing Subdivision Standards

In 2023, I championed the adoption of updated Subdivision Regulations, which raised the bar for road construction in new developments. These regulations ensure that roads are built to modern standards, reducing the risk of early failure and minimizing future repair costs for the city.

📌 My Road Policy: Fix What Matters, Spend Wisely

My approach is simple:

  • Repair roads thoroughly, not temporarily
  • Hold developers accountable
  • Secure outside funding wherever possible
  • Protect the city’s budget while improving infrastructure

The work isn’t done, but the results are visible. Let’s keep moving Margaret forward, one road at a time.
