Margaret, AL – Matt Tortorice, a dedicated public servant and community advocate, has officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Margaret in the upcoming municipal election. With a deep commitment to smart growth, transparency, and strengthening community partnerships, Tortorice is eager to bring his leadership experience to the mayor’s office.
“Margaret is my home, and I want to ensure that Margaret grows in a way that benefits all of its residents,” said Tortorice. “This campaign is about preserving our small-town charm while planning for the future, ensuring that we have the infrastructure, economic opportunities, and community resources to thrive.”
A Track Record of Leadership and Service
Tortorice has been an active member of the Margaret City Council, where he has worked tirelessly to increase transparency, advocate for responsible budgeting, and secure critical funding for infrastructure projects. His involvement extends beyond city government—he actively collaborates with the St. Clair County Commission, Economic Development Council, and represents Margaret at the St. Clair County Mayor’s Association.
His leadership has already led to tangible improvements for Margaret, including:
Securing the GUSC Sewer System from Moody, a crucial step in improving city infrastructure.
Being Awarded a $350,000 State Grant for road repairs in Margaret.
Assisting Negotiations on the Gas Tax with the County Commission, ultimately securing $100,000 annually for Margaret.
Partnering with Argo to obtain the ATRIP II grant, facilitating improvements to the Hwy 11 and County Road 12 intersection.
Tortorice has also prioritized professional development, achieving the ALM CMO Basic Certification in his first term, with 40+ hours of municipal training. He completed the Leadership St. Clair program through the St. Clair County EDC and remains dedicated to obtaining ALM Advanced and Emeritus Certifications.
“I’ve worked hard to build relationships at the county and state levels to bring resources back to Margaret,” Tortorice stated. “As mayor, I will continue to be a proactive leader who ensures our community gets the attention and investment it deserves.”
